Is Ashtanga Yoga the Right Yoga for You?









K. Pattabhi Jois developed and founded a type of yoga called Ashtanga Yoga. Known as Eight Limb Yoga is a type of yoga which has revolved in Pattanjali's enormous idea. In it is presented the path of purification consists of eight spiritual practices.

The eight limbs of Ashtanga Yoga are spilt into two groups. The first four are yama, Asana, niyama, and the Pranayama. These first four are cleansing, and correctable externally. The other set of limbs are internal, pratyahara, dhyana, dharana. Correcting these limbs can only be corrected through the application of Ashtanga Yoga. This yoga is considered quite dangerous to the mind.

Practicing these Eight Limbs and it's sub-limbs of the external set, includeing the niyama and yama, is not possible according to K. Pattabhi. Doing so the should be strong, so it can perform the practices well. If the sense organs are not functioning well, if the body is weak, practicing will not be at all useful.

It is important to understand, in doing the practice your body will improve, becoming younger and stronger according to the philosophy of K. Pattabhi Jois. Ashtanga Yoga includes Vinsaya and Tristhana.

One of the things that makes Ashtanga distinct from others is adding the Vinsaya. Vinsaya is for the internal cleansing process, and means the movement and breathing used. Each movement is paired with one breath. If you produce sweat it only means successfully using the Yoga. Sweat is the most important product of the exercise. During Asanas your body creats heat, causing your blood to boil. This excretes the toxins from your body. Since these toxins are in your sweat, the more sweat your produce to more toxins you lose from your body.

Fully developing the strength and health of your body uses poses. There are three postures used in Ashtaga Yoga, each classified on different levels.

The primary series aims at aligning and detoxifying the body. The second, or intermediate series cleanses and opens the energy channels allowing your nervous system to purify.

Another yoga principle, Tristhana, represents joining the three parts of action and attention. Posture first, then breathing second. Last is the looking place, called the Dristhi. These three need to work together.

It is very important to link a single breath with a single movement, breathing techniques simultaneous and synchronized. Ashtanga Yoga uses the Ujjayi breathing technique, and this breathing needs to be prolonged after each yoga session. Holding your breath while holding your pose is the skill you need to master. Mastering this breathing exercise will increase your internal fire and make your nervous system stronger.

Ashtanga and Tristhana both deal with the Dristhi series. The Dristhi has been described as the point which you gain focus from doing the Asana. After the Dristhi your mind is purified, stabilized, and clear. Clearing and cleansing your mind can only be done using Ashtanga Yoga, or Eight-Limb Yoga.
