How To Accessorise For Wet Weather

Most people want to look good most of the time, especially when going out and about. Whether it be on the daily commute to work or going on a big night out with our friends, looking good is important. One surefire way to look your finest is through accessorising.

Unfortunately, the elements aren't always on your side when it comes to looking your best. Sure, nice sunny days are made for fashion and allow for plenty of awesome accessories such as sunglasses and hats. But what about those days when the heavens open?

There's nothing worse than getting soaked on your way somewhere and then having to sit around drenched through all day. Unfortunately, this often means dressing practically rather than fashionably. However, there are certain accessories can make any drab waterproof ensemble look like it has come straight from the considerably sunnier catwalks of Milan.

In wet weather, a waterproof jacket is a must - unless you want to hang your cotton sweater over the heater in the office bathroom all day! Waterproofs can be unflattering but you can stay on trend by opting for a sporty jacket rather than the 'first day at school' look people often associate with the style.

A good sturdy pair of shoes is essential in torrential weather, as a pair of flimsy fabric trainers will soak through and leave you with wet feet all day! Go for a well-made pair of leather boots or a shoe which covers the whole foot. These don't necessarily have to be hard-wearing or unflattering, as long as they keep your feet dry.

Of course, for going out on a night on the town that offers no solace so it's time to let you in a fashion secret; fold-up shoes. Fold-up shoes are made to fit in a handbag and are perfect for making a quick shoe changes, whether that be wearing the shoes on the way to your chosen venue and switching to your favourite heels when you're inside or changing your sodden shoes for comfortable fold-ups!

An umbrella should also be considered a must-have, especially if the thought of messing up your hair through wearing a hood sends a shiver down your spine! Umbrellas come in a wide range of styles and you should be able to find one that suits your style pretty well. In general, you should go for a 'plain' colour if you go for a plain umbrella (such as black, white or clear) or opt for a pattern otherwise. This way, you avoid any potential style clashes between your outfit and your brolly!

Unfortunately, low temperatures are a favourite bedfellow of wet weather so keeping warm is as important as keeping dry. Scarves and gloves are a great way of keeping your body heat locked in, but always go for non-absorbent materials; leather gloves for example. Wool will soak up a lot of rain and will take a long time to dry out so it's advisable that you steer well clear in wet conditions.
