It's a busy time in the jewelry and fashion world. While most of us are still enjoying barbecues, vacations and flip flops, the fashion world is hard at work on their fall collections. Here, from the studios and runways of jewelry's top designers and reporters, is a sneak peek at what's ahead in fall for jewelry and accessories.
All About Natural
If there's a buzzword for the 2012 fall jewelry season, it's "natural." Fall 2012 jewelry will be all about nature and natural tones. Designs will be inspired by animals, flowers, and exotic ethnic cultures. Size wise, big will still be in, so go for large statement pieces.
Here's an overview of what to look forward to this fall:
Earth tones are in. The super neon look of the 1980s are out (again) in favor of more subdued and natural Earth tones. Bigger is still better, though, so look for large bracelets and necklaces in whites, creams and beiges.
The year of blue. To add some color to the natural Earth tones, go for blue. From aqua to azure, navy to turquoise, blue is the must-have color for fall 2012.
Celebrate flowers. As mentioned before, fall 2012 jewelry is all about natural-and the beauty of flowers will be celebrated in jewelry this season. You'll see flowers in every combination, from buds to full-blown floral arrangements, in every kind of piece from brooches to rings.
Go big with bib necklaces. Look for large, layered art deco and Egyptian-influenced bib necklaces - the kind Michelle Obama wears quite often. The key to making this look is to pair it with a basic blouse with a simple neckline. Let the necklace complement, not compete with, your outfit.
Geometric jewelry shapes. Triangle- and diamond-shaped earrings, square rings and bracelets, and necklaces with circular stones are going to be seen on people and on TV this fall, as geometric jewelry is back in vogue.
Crosses are cool. Whatever your religion or belief, there is something stunning about the beauty of an intricate cross jewelry piece. Look for intricate pieces in non-traditional colors.
Nature and Native-American. American Indian- and nature-inspired jewelry will once again be in this fall. Think multi-colored beaded and turquoise bracelets, necklaces with leaf or shell pendants and earrings with feathered designs. Go easy on real feathers as a hair accessory, though, that's on its way out.
Tribal/Ancient Mayan. Let your inner warrior shine through this fall with Ancient Mayan and tribal-inspired necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Look for worn gold and silver-colored pieces with beaded accents of turquoise, dark reds, blues, greens and browns.
When you bring in a piece of jewelry or other item to Empire, that property is appraised by a professional jeweler. If you choose to take a loan out or "pawn it" instead of sell it, the item becomes collateral against the loan, and you receive cash against that collateral.
