How to Improve Your Daily Nutrition Habits

On a daily basis, many people do not practice healthy nutritional habits. This leaves many people not having the body that they want and confused about what to do to get that type of body. The truth is, when you practice healthy nutritional habits, your body becomes slim on its own. There really is not much you have to do to your body when you are maintaining it properly. Read on to learn what things you should be considering to have a healthy body through great nutrition habits.

Staying hydrated is the one thing you are always going to want to do. The human body can live several weeks without food. But no one can function after a few days without water. Water is the key to life and it is essential that you fill your body with enough water on a daily basis. Drink at least 8 cups of water a day. Your body is going to feel a lot more energized as a result.

Filling your body with natural products from the Earth is the best way to practice healthy nutritious habits without having to read a bunch of labels. Avoid eating fruits and vegetables with preservatives on them, because there are a lot of chemicals in them that make them stay edible for so long. Take the time to get fruits and vegetables that are fresh and ready to eat. When you eat enough fruits and veggies, you give your body many of the vitamins it needs to function; so get to eating healthier.

Breakfast is literally the most important meal of the day because it fuels you for the long day ahead. Be sure that you are giving yourself the right amount of fuel with a nice healthy balanced breakfast. Add in the right amount of vitamins, protein and carbohydrates so that you can get ready to tackle the long workday ahead.

Rest is important when trying to make your body healthy. People simply do not function properly when they are not getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep every night. If you start to feel agitated because you are not sleeping enough, then this may be a sign that you should be getting more rest. There is no way your body can be healthy if it does not recharge its batteries.

Look online, ask friends and consult with doctors to see what you should be doing to practice healthy nutritional habits. All it takes is a little time and effort every day and you should have a lot of knowledge about what to fill your body with. In time, with enough dedication, you too should be a nutrition expert and have the ability to guide someone else with what they should be doing to practice having a healthy body.

Take all of the information about health and nutrition you gained from this article into consideration. In a short period of time, you should notice changes to your body and even your mind. This is because when you properly nourish your body, everything can function better. Remember that and good luck.

Yoga for Depression and Anxiety: How to Improve Your Mental Health Through Gentle Stretching

Are you Stressed or Depressed? Try Yoga!

It's well-known that yoga has numerous health benefits and is often recommended for physical ailments such as back pain, but it's interesting to delve into the use of the ancient technique to improve mental well-being and provide a healthy outlook on life.

Recent research in the United States found that three sessions of gentle yoga a week can help combat depression as it boosts levels of a chemical in the brain which is essential for a relaxed mind. In 2010, scientists at the Boston University School of Medicine found that the levels of the amino acid GABA are significantly higher in people that carry out yoga than those who do the equivalent of a similarly strenuous exercise, for example walking. This chemical is essential for the function of brain and central nervous system and promotes a state of calm within the body.

Low levels of GABA are associated with various anxiety disorders, and depression. This would suggest then that there is more to the way in which yoga makes us feel happy and relaxed than simply releasing endorphins as other exercise does.

Stress is a common occurrence in today's society; factors such as the recent credit crunch and job market on top of raising a family, relationships, studies etc. can take a toll on all of us. Our bodies and minds are not designed to handle long periods of stress- which can manifest itself in hypertension, insomnia, skin problems, asthma, ulcers, and as previously mentioned; anxiety and depression.

How to Reduce Stress and Anxiety Through Focused Breathing and Awareness

Yoga provides good results for stress management

-It physically releases stress and tension by the stretching and twisting into different postures (referred to as 'Asanas' in yoga) and unwinds knots in the back and neck muscles etc. which may be causing the body to feel tight.

-The physical exercises releases endorphins, natural hormones in the body which create a feeling of well-being.

-Yoga breathing techniques (known as 'Pranayamas') make a person take deeper breaths which fill the bloodstream with more oxygen and control blood pressure, but also being aware of your control over breathing is a very effective tool in combating stress.

-Pranayamas and Asanas, together the 'language of the body' help us get to know our innermost being, and control over ourselves through learning to control our body. Practising yoga will help realise there is an inter-connection between mind, body and spirit which in turn helps to maintain balance in daily life.

-Yoga clears the mind: Our minds are constantly racing from one thought to another and tiring themselves out in the process! The concentration used in yoga for Asanas and Pranayamas gives the brain a well-deserved break, and puts all other worries and thoughts to the side.

-Yogic philosophy also plays an important role in achieving a more optimistic outlook. Regular practising of yoga can change the way in which a person views the world and their attitude towards achieving goals and success rather than failure. Asanas and Pranayamas impart positive thinking.

-Ending each yoga session relaxing with the 'savasana' or corpse pose might feel like an enforced relaxation at first but eventually becomes a total release for both body and mind, transitioning you back into the world refreshed and ready to go!

A few key yoga postures, or asanas, for relieving stress are 'savasana' (corpse pose) as mentioned above, 'balasana' (child's pose), 'makarasana' (crocodile pose) and 'vrikshasana' (tree pose). Take a breather next time you feel stressed out and see how much of a difference yoga makes to your mood!

Yoga Therapy to Improve Your Three-Point Stance!

Yoga has always been known to help improve performance of athletes. Football players want to stay at the top of their game. Yoga Therapy can improve the three-point stance, which is an essential posture for all football players, especially offensive linemen and more specifically the Center.

These three simple yoga therapy tips can help improve game performance. Yoga benefits include better concentration, more agility, more strength and endurance in the muscles but beyond yoga there is Yoga Therapy. Yoga Therapy is an age-old technique that has a therapeutic approach and intention for thousands of years.

Many Yoga Therapy gurus have various definitions- one of my favorites is the easiest and most concise "Yoga therapy adapts the practice of Yoga to the needs of people with specific or persistent health problems not usually addressed in a group class." - Larry Payne, Ph.D.

In this case the "people" are football players. As an avid fan of the San Diego Chargers since I was 18, I have witnessed over the years the tearing down of the human body on the fields of pro football. Now as a Yoga Therapist, I see how the techniques I use to mend and restructure the ailing physical body can actually improve the game performance of these athletes.

We hear that every season many of the players are put on injured-reserve or are otherwise unable to play in all the games. In the 2011 NFL pre-season, a San Diego Charger, Antonio Gates, placed on the physically unable to perform list (PUP List) due to plantar faciitis (though he was recently removed from it). This could have been totally been prevented and with the proper Yoga therapy approach keep him in the game more than 60 percent of game time, enough time to give us the winning edge.

Here in this article you will find the three simple Yoga Therapy poses that can improve the three-point stance. Yoga therapy can also be a preventive measure for injury in any sport that involves the feet, the legs and torso.

The first tip is stretching your lower leg and foot in the morning before you get out of bed. This is important because while you're lying in bed, the calves, Achilles tendon, and connective tissue on the sole of the foot gets shorter. This is very simple to do just pull your toes toward your nose and hold for ten seconds then push your toes away from you and hold for ten seconds. Repeat this action ten times. Voila, healthy feet!

Secondly, You want to have a loose hip flexor. The hip flexor muscle is located across the front of the hips Navasana (Boat Pose) is really good at making the Iliopsoas strong because it demands that the muscle isometrically contract. Sit on the floor with your legs stretched straight in front of you. Rest your hands by your sides. Exhale, lean back slightly and lift your legs off the floor to about a 60-degree angle. Ideally, your feet should be higher than your head. Your weight should be resting only on your buttocks--not on any part of your spine Use your hands as you need to support until you get enough strength to hold legs up without using hands.

Finally, the Garland pose (Malasana) Squat with your feet as close together as possible. (Use a mat for support if needed). Exhaling, lean your torso into the middle of your legs and fit it snugly between your thighs; Press your elbows against inside knees, bring your palms together.

These poses improve your three-point stance and help you beat the defender off the ball. Specifically, Yoga Therapy for football players can be easy and used in the prevention of injuries. When Yoga is used in intervals to keep the muscles and the body limber and fluid, football players will be much more agile, faster and limber, keeping them in the game longer and making them faster. This is a great thing for my Chargers- my team of choice.
