How To Dress Like A Modern Rock Star

Everyone wants to be a rockstar; the money, the girls, the fast cars, not to mention the ability to throw out a sweet riff or screaming guitar solo on demand.

For most of us, the dream of getting a record deal and touring the world playing our own tunes in front of millions of adoring fans will remain precisely that - a dream. However, that doesn't mean that we can't try and at least look our favourite rock stars.

However, defining what a rock star looks like is difficult. For some, rock star style will be the punk fashion of 70s London, while others will swear by the 80s glam metal look of the Sunset Strip.

For most of us though, looking like a rock star will mean taking inspiration from the here and now, the big stars of today. So how can you look like your favourite 21st century musician?

It turns out David Bowie was wrong; musicians in 2012 don't look like Ziggy Stardust. In fact, compared to trends of the past, they're pretty understated - guys like Jared Leto from 30 Seconds to Mars and Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance are actually quite normal looking. That doesn't mean they aren't cool though!

The first item you're going to need in your modern rock star arsenal is a good pair of jeans. The basic staple of any good rocker, jeans will be your hard-wearing best friend that'll form the basis of most of your outfits.

Dark, well fitted jeans are the best option for achieving the rock star look, but if you don't feel comfortable in a tighter fit then looser fits can work too. Extra cool points can be earned via fashionable tears and different washes!

Team your jeans with a pair of basketball / baseball style sneakers - the more unique the pattern, the better - or a good pair of biker style boots.

For the top half, you can't go far wrong with a vintage band t-shirt. The more credible the band, the better, as it shows off your incredible musical knowledge to passers-by! Pair it with a light wash denim jacket or a leather jacket, layering the jacket with a black hoody for the extra edgy look.

For neater occasions, go for a dark shirt paired with a well-fitted blazer. Add an alternative-style tie (think unusual patterns) to add a rocking flourish to your formal attire!

The thing that's really going to top off your modern rock star look however is accessories - and plenty of them. A belt should be considered essential; go for either a studded belt or a regular belt paired with an awesome belt buckle.

A good pendant can also really add to the look as well; nothing screams rock and roll more than having a skull dangling round your neck! You'll also need a hat for those days when you roll out of bed at 3pm after a hard night of partying, so invest in a trilby or a mesh cap. And what rock star would be complete without a pair of sunglasses?!

So there you have it, a few style tips on looking like your favourite modern rock star. Remember though, real style comes from individuality so be inspired rather than copying directly!

How to Care for Your Spine With Yoga

The spine is a marvelous structure that houses the nervous system. How can yoga care for the spine? What movement contributes to the spine's flexibility?

Let's identify the 3 segments in the vertebrae: the neck, the mid-back and the lower back. These areas can be weakened or damaged due to sports accidents, automobile collisions, bad posture, falls, carrying heavy handbags or backpacks daily, and even emotional stress. They can be improved with yoga.

Movement

The spine moves forward, backward, to the right and left side, it can lengthen upwards, be compressed, and can rotate. Yoga encourages lengthening and movement of the spine in all directions in one session.

Neck - Place your hand on your head touching lightly, then press up into the hand keeping the chin parallel to the floor. Feel how more space is created in the vertebrae as you lengthen up. Drop the chin to the chest as you exhale, raise the head up and back as you inhale. When the cervical spine is lengthened, there is freedom to turn the neck. Moving the neck with this awareness is an essential part of a safe yoga practice.

Chest - Flexing and extending the thoracic spine with the breath energizes the mind. Practiced in a sitting position, the forward movement of the chest on the inhale stretches the muscles in the upper chest, and strengthens the ones in the back. Rounding the shoulders separating the scapulae on the exhale reduces pain and tension in the upper back. Try this movement daily for 1-5 minutes for a better mood and to increase and maintain flexibility in the upper back. This movement is part of warm ups in yoga and can be practiced standing.

Lower Back - Unlike the thoracic spine that is reinforced by the ribs, the lumbar spine is without any supporting bony structure. Lying on the floor is one way to provide support while moving the low back forward and back to release tension. Pelvic tilts are performed regularly in yoga, and of course always with the breath. The movement stretches the muscles of the low back and strengthens the abdomen. Be careful not to over arch while practicing low back exercises.

The twist was once a popular dance. Understanding the range of motion for each segment of the spine is crucial when practicing twists in yoga. The neck has more rotation and the low back the least.

Know your spine and how to move with relaxed alertness in all situations.

Best Dress Styles for a Christmas Party

Invited to a Christmas party but not sure what to wear? Here are the best dress styles to wear to a party, dinner or work event during the holidays.

Sleek Sequins

Sleek sequins in metallic hues are a hot look this year. Look for a one piece short dress with long sleeves for a sexy vibe or a flirty sequined skirt paired with a sleeveless blouse. Add a few bangle bracelets, drop earrings and high heel pumps for a simply stunning style statement.

Feminine Chiffon

A pretty chiffon dress with plenty of layered fabric is ideal for a black tie event. For something a little less formal try an embellished chiffon knee-length dress worn with a thin belt cinched at the waist. Chiffon is a soft, lush fabric that creates a truly feminine vibe.

Ode to the Past

A beaded viscose drop waist dress reminiscent of the 20's and 30's is another gorgeous fashion option during the holiday season. Pair it with a small clutch purse, some strappy shoes and a beaded hair band to complete your look.

Strapless Gown

If you plan on going somewhere really special then a strapless gown is a perfect mix of high glam and effortlessly stylish. Simply put on your gorgeous gown, slip on a pair of stilettos and add a few pieces of jewelry and you are good to go.

Trendy Tuxedo

When it comes to tuxedos for women, there are endless options. A pair of shimmering black pants paired with a sharp tuxedo jacket and high heel pumps is simply chic. A tuxedo style dress with white on the top and black on the bottom is another great high fashion trend.

Embellished Skirt

If you prefer a skirt and blouse over a dress then opt for a flared skirt worn with a sleek style shimmering tank or bustier top. It all depends on the look you are going for. If you prefer sexy, then a bustier top is a must. However, if you would rather a more feminine and flirty fashion statement then a shimmering fitted tank is the way to go.

Must Have Mini

If you've got great legs don't be afraid to show them off this New Year's Eve. Shoot for the stars in a gorgeous metallic mini skirt worn with a sheer blouse. Complete your look with a pair of patent leather pumps, a beaded clutch purse and some sleek gold and silver jewelry.

The Most Difficult Yoga Positions

There are poses that are rated beginner poses and ones that have a higher level of difficulty. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced yoga practitioner, there are poses waiting for you to master. Those poses are difficult yoga positions.

The most difficult yoga positions are ones someone else finds remarkably easy. With grace and ease the practitioner enters the "difficult" pose like an experienced diver enters the water. Mastery is associated with ease, which comes with developing control of movement. Mastery comes with hours of practice. Practice is more successful when done gently and with patience.

If you are a beginner, you may find keeping your arms straight in Cat/Cow a challenge. Your elbows bend every time you take your body into the cow position with the belly towards the floor. The movement that lowers the abdomen might come from the spine, yet at the moment your body unconsciously moves and bends the elbow.

Another area that beginners must pay attention to in Cat/Cow is the shoulders. The shoulders round as you lift the spine into the Cat portion of the pose. (Explore contracting the abdomen after you lift and see what happens.) When you reverse the movement and lower the abdomen, do the shoulders remain up by the ears? Attention must be paid to draw the shoulders away from the ears.

The act of bringing unconscious movement into conscious awareness, and at the same time move with the breath inhaling into Cat/Cow and exhaling into Cat, makes Cat/Cow a most difficult yoga position for beginners.

As an experienced yoga practitioner, I smile when someone moves with ease into Crow Pose. Especially if it is a female as we must build faith and trust in the strength of our arms. I'll share with you the first step in a journey I am taking. The first step is a change in attitude from "why" to "I'll give it a persistent try". This most difficult yoga position, Bakasana, Crow Pose, has suddenly become doable.

With gentle practice, correct technique, and persistence, the most difficult yoga position becomes possible over time and mastered.

Power Dressing Essentials For Men Today

First impressions last. Whether we like it or not, there is a grain of truth here. We often make assumptions about a person's social status depending on the clothes and accessories he wears. Along with that, the attention and esteem we give vary according to people's appearance. Power dressing is important if you want to be taken seriously, especially when you are out on a serious mission of whatever nature. The succeeding thoughts will make you understand this option more and make it work to your advantage.

The way you dress affects the way you feel about yourself. It has a transforming factor which influences our emotions and our minds. Ladies, for example, take time to be in a nice outfit with matching make-up and scent to uplift their gloomy mood. Try neat attires aside from your usual shirt and jeans and you will be conscious about looking good all through out the day.

Executives are expected to be in professional clothes whenever and wherever. You can usually spot them in suits or wearing dress shirts in casual gatherings. Why? They take care of the extra measure of respect due them. It also creates in them that kind of discipline by making themselves conscious of what people would comment on their stance. More so, it makes them aware of the details that contribute to their overall look.

Dressing up properly can take you closer to your goals. This holds true in events like job interviews, closing business deals or gracing seminars or talks. Wearing tailor fit or jackets sends the message that you have prepared for an interview and you are serious to get the job. Power dressing can give you that sense of reliability at one glance without even talking about your credentials.

It is not enough that you pick presentable clothes. Ensure that their cut, color and print fit you. For the cut, be careful not to wear styles custom-made for the slim if you are quite plum. The same concept works otherwise. Consider your skin when choosing the color of your top. There are certain colors which complete the color of your eyes and hair too. Furthermore, the kind of event you will be attending dictates the color of suit you should be wearing. Formal events require solid colors like black, dark blue and white most of the time. Pin stripes are the common and the only acceptable prints in suits. Any other type of print on them would be inappropriate.

Power dressing is one thing men should not overlook. It can be your stepping stone to countless opportunities. It can get you to many places and meet important people you have not encountered. Additionally, it can build your character - self-confidence, discipline and attention to details. You will never know the chances that may come your way out there and dressing appropriately might be crucial in claiming them. For whatever its worth, consider carrying yourself in a presentable manner all the time. Stay groomed and dress well.

Why Should I Try Yoga?

You are wondering whether yoga is for you or not, what yoga benefits are, and why to try yoga. Because yoga can be and must be modified to suit you, however you are and just as you are, you can certainly give it a try. Granted you might not know which class to join. Have a chat with the teacher or studio before you go to the class. Share your concerns, honestly.

Here are 7 reasons to try yoga. You'll find various everyday scenarios below one or two might resonate with you.

1. More balanced muscular system

Example - you have been going to the gym lifting weights; your shoulders are a bit rounded. Yoga can improve your posture with movements that relax those muscles in the front of the body, and strengthen those in the upper back.

2. More balanced nervous system

Let's say you are a stay at home mom, and you are finding yourself getting a bit nervous and tense for whatever reason. The movement of the spine, conscious breathing and relaxation at the end of the class will give more rest to the nervous system.

3. Improved breathing

Asthma has been an issue for you. The many chest openers gently performed can create space for more lung expansion making breathing easier.

4. Better circulation

There's a series of gentle movements for the joints that can be used for warm-ups and even practiced alone as a full class. This increases lubrication to the joints making them healthier. If you have limited mobility, you would definitely want to try such a series.

5. Balanced energy

The season of the year will affect our energy level. For some, winter brings the blues. For others, the heat and humidity of summer is a very heavy weight to carry. Yoga and Ayurveda offers a movement and breathing practice, nutrition and lifestyle to balance your unique energetic needs.

6. Improved sleep

Exercise, release of tension, good breathing, and a calm mind contribute to better sleep.

7. Calm mind

For a lot of people, the relaxation pose at the end of the class is the best part of the class. Savasana is the Sanskrit word for the pose. It means corpse pose. At first you may find yourself going to sleep and even snoring in the pose. Or your mind might still be making lists. In the end however a calm mind is the prize.

As popular as yoga is becoming, many are still hesitant to try yoga. Remember yoga beginners are always welcome.
